By Crom! It's been quite some time since we last heard anything about THQ and Nihilistic Software's Conan for the Xbox 360 and PS3. Well, the game is looking really good with quite a few surprises that beat-em-up fans might appreciate.
Gamespot was able to sit down and talk with Mark Cooke, the lead gameplay programmer for the game from Nihilistic Games. He leaked out some information regarding the development of the game and the combat system. So let's get to it and see if they are capturing the essence of Conan in their upcoming release.
The development of the game is going well, according to Cooke. He noted that "lots of little bits and pieces are starting to come together as everything is being integrated into one cohesive package."
He also said that they were tweaking the parameters of the game just a bit to make players really feel like Conan when they're playing the game. (It's great that these guys are taking an extra mile to remain true t...

Here's a bit of good news for BioWare fans. According to video game news site PlayStation Universe, a BioWare community director has confirmed that the company will indeed be attending this year's E3. The company will reportedly have some "cool stuff" to show at the event, but apart from that, no other details were revealed.
There is also some speculation about a possible PS3-related announcement from BioWare. Ray Muzyka, the company's CEO, was reported to have openly stated that BioWare has something cooking for the Sony PS3 at a Video games Live concert in Edmonton, Canada, early this year.
The rumor was subsequently quashed by BioWare PR coordinator Erik Einsiedel, but both Muzyka and Greg Zeschuk have confirmed that the company is indeed working on all next-gen platforms.

While SEGA and Monolith Productions' Condemned 2: Bloodshot will be debuting at this year's E3, a lot of the fans are really anxious to get more details on it. Yeah, it's a bit much to ask the really hardcore followers of this game to wait a week or so, therefore we dug around a bit.
Apparently, IGN was lucky enough to sit down with a few members of the development team from Monolith. Producer David Hasle, associate multiplayer producer Tarl Raney, and lead software engineer Brian Legge appeared to be more than happy to have their brains picked, so here are a few of the interesting points that came out.
First up are the weapons in Condemned 2. Hasle gave word that the old favorites, such as the pipe, will still be in the game. They've also expanded the weapon list and added a few new twists in how you use the weapons. Apparently, you can throw them now. The practical application of this was explained by Hasle.
For example, you can throw your weapons -- that's r...

Here's another dose of radioactive Fallout 3 for you guys. The boys at GameTrailers were able to score an interview with Bethesda Softworks' lead producer, Gavin Carter about the upcoming video game.
Fallout 3 for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 is set 30 years after the events of Fallout 2. According to Carter, the in-game map is basically a "large chunk of the area around Washington D.C." He revealed that the story will revolve around the disappearance of the player's father and discovering what happened to him.
Another thing that was discussed is the difference between character progression in Oblivion and Fallout 3. Carter indicated that Fallout 3 is experience-based where players can level-up by completing quests and defeating enemies. He also discussed the effects of how players go about the quests. Destroy a town and lose the chance to complete the quests there, but another town gets accessible with other quests and things to do.
Plus he named Liam...

This could be the most credible proof that the PlayStation 3 possesses formidable hardware: IBM's fastest supercomputer to date, Blue Gene/P, is juiced up by the same kind of processing chip that was originally designed for the Sony PS3.
Blue Gene/P is approximately 100,000 more powerful than a PC, just enough to make PlayStation 3 owners feel proud about their powerful machine. IBM's latest supercomputer can run about 1,000 trillion calculations per second, also termed as "petaflops".
Blue Gene/P's predecessor, the Blue Gene/L, is used to protect nuclear weapons stockpile, and has already reached a calculating speed of 280.6 teraflops or trillions of calculations. "Blue Gene/P marks the evolution of the most powerful supercomputing platform the world has ever known," said Dave Turek, vice president of IBM's deep computing, about Blue Gene/P.
IBM possesses a remarkable supercomputer manufacturing portfolio: they have produced about 50 of existing 500 s...

We've got a new gameplay video from Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3). The basic lesson of the video: you're not safe, even behind walls.
The video is aptly titled "Deep Impact", and it illustrates just how powerful the weapons are in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. Basically, high powered weaponry can shoot through walls, floors, and ceilings so players can have an advantage in combat. Of course, you'll need to know how to use them for the balance to really tilt in your favor.
At any rate, you better take a look at the video for a quick sneak peek at Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Enjoy!

In a recent study by The Diffusion Group, analysts discovered some alarming facts about gamers and just how often they use—or know they can use—the multimedia capabilities of their consoles. Here are the numbers:
- 80% of console owners can playback DVD or Blu-ray discs.
- 30% even know about those features
- 13% use those features
Also...
- 42% of gamers with consoles hooked to broadband have streamed video through them in some fashion.
In the Wilson household, we have three media-capable consoles hooked up in the living room, one of which (the PS3) we do use for all DVD/BD playback, another of which (360) we use to download movies. But while the PS2 originally boomed in Japanese popularity due to its inexpensive DVD playback, most current console media support has been looked over or not properly advertised. And it's a shame, because these consoles are fantastic media devices.
Fraction of Console Users... [ga...

Once again adding to the list of sweet deals that would most likely turn out to be another Japanese exclusive, Koei is bundling Bladestorm: The Hundred Year's War with a PS3 60GB unit. The bundle will score about 64,980 Yen, or US 528 dollars.
For hardcore game collectors, there will be a Premium Box edition that contains a copy of the game as well as a limited edition soundtrack CD (containing 10 tracks), and will be 10,479 Yen less Japanese pockets (or US 85 for us gaijin).
The game itself will cost about 8,190 Yen, which roughly amounts to US 66. The Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War Playstation 3 bundle will be displayed in Japanese store shelves starting August 30.

After its first week out on the market, Colin McRae: DiRT by Codemasters has hit the half-million mark in global sales. The game's demo has been downloaded more than 500,000 times and the actual sales figures are just a shade behind.
Codemasters CEO Rod Cousens comments "This success with DiRT is a text-book case of our product development, marketing and distribution efforts all working together to ignite consumer interest and drive sales."
Cousens also revealed that almost half of the game's first-week sales were from the United States, and said that the distribution is a sign that the DiRT franchise is catching on internationally.
DiRT is available now for the Microsoft Xbox 360 and the PC. A Sony PlayStation 3 version will be released later this year and is also expected to sell well in the platform.
