Gametrailers is running the Bonus Round show again, as David Jaffe sat down with industry experts Michael Pachter, N'gai Croal, Billy Berghammer and Shane Satterfield to talk about third-party publishers and games.
Electronic Arts (EA), being a major third-party publisher that churns out more titles than we can count per year, was definitely a hot topic. Harmonix' Rock Band is going to rock the world, no doubt about it. The big dilemma Satterfield sees is how the peripherals will be priced to make it sell. Will a phenomenal game come at a phenomenal price?
It's no secret that Guitar Hero appealed to both hardcore and casual gamers alike. Croal believes that hardcore fans will dish out money to purchase the full experience Rock Band has to offer, while their casual friends will walk in to play along before deciding to get their own set of peripherals.
EA also boasts of other long running franchises, but analysts find faults in the giant company's business mode...

Despite denials, Sony has made official the new $499 price point for the PlayStation 3 that we've started to see appear in retailers across the US. The 60GB model's new price point will indeed be $499, with a new 80GB model going on sale for $599 in the US and Canada in August. As a small bonus, the 80GB version will include a "free" copy of MotorStorm. So there ya' have it kids: in one quick swoop, Sony has made the PS3's price a whole lot more competitive.
P.S. - yes, we're looking for the original AP link. For now, we're linking to the syndicated story on KOTV.

Sony PlayStation 3 owners looking for some daredevil actions will have to wait a couple of months more for the platform's version of Stuntman: Ignition as the release month slides from August to October of this year.
Those waiting for the game on other platforms will be relieved to know that their scheduled launches are all on track and set for launch on the target dates. No explanation was released as to the reasons for the delay.
This is the second delay announcement in the last few days as a similar delay was announced by Electronic Arts regarding their upcoming World War II shooter Medal of Honor: Airborne for the PS3.
THQ lists all other games on the slate with no changes on their schedules. This includes anticipated titles like Warhammer 40,000, WWE SmackDown vs Raw 2008 and MotoGP.

A rumor that the upcoming next gen rhythm game Rock Band (PS3, Xbox 360) will be an Xbox 360 exclusive has started floating around the Internet due to the Rock Band E3 invitation.
See, the invitation does not include the familiar logo of Sony's next gen PlayStation 3 video game console. Instead, the invite shows the logo of only one console - that of the Microsoft Xbox 360.
Of course, this is just a rumor, and the event in question could be a Microsoft-sponsored one, hence the absence of the PS3 logo.
Everything that has come out about Rock Band so far has suggested that the game will indeed be launched on both the PS3 and Xbox 360.
We'll keep you guys updated about this rumor as more details come to light. Click on the Read link below to see the E3 invite.

Word of a potential $100 PS3 price reduction has turned from rumor into denial into confirmed-but-still-rumor. Luckily, our sister site Kotaku has been following the story closer than anyone else on the web, and here is the epic tale according to them:
ACT I: JUICY RUMOR
A Circuit City promotion flier leaks, showing the PS3 at $499 for the week of July 15th-21st.
ACT II: DENIAL
Sony freaks, going on damage control and denying the rumors that the PS3 will ever be reduced in price (even though they admitted that gameplan just weeks before).
ACT III: ESSENTIALLY CONFIRMED (BUT STILL TECHNICALLY A RUMOR)
A merchandising manager for a major retailer confesses to the price drop.
Then, Kotaku's moles at both Best Buy and Circuit City check inventory listings. They both confirm the $499 price.
ACT IV to come...and it's called E3...and it's next week.

The European Commission has opened an investigation regarding hi-def discs, demanding access to Hollywood movie studios' files regarding Blu-ray and HD DVD agreements. Because some believe that the Blu-ray Disc Association has signed studios in contracts that aren't only exclusive, but anti-competitive.
Many are citing that the clear evidence for Blu-ray's alleged cheating is that HD DVD is selling more standalone players throughout Europe, yet Blu-ray is maintaining huge studio support. While this sales figure may be true, the PS3—while not a runaway hit—isn't necessarily included in "standalone players."
Since Sony Pictures, Disney, Twentieth Century Fox, Lionsgate and MGM are all Blu-ray exclusive, any findings would be a massive win for HD DVD, as these studios might be forced to produce movies on both formats (...I wonder if that would apply to Sony).
I love my hi-def DVDs as much as the next guy, but I can do without the federal drama. Let's ...

While Steven Spielberg remains tight-lipped about his upcoming projects in the gaming industry, he's not above giving gamers a few teaser code-names. Teaming up with Electronic Arts, Spielberg has been developing at least three original titles over the past year. Recently, he gave away some hints as to the nature of his games.
First up is a game code-named PQRS, an action-puzzle-simulator that Spielberg claims would allow you to manipulate virtual blocks with the Wiimote as "if it were an extension of your hand". Tagged as a family title, this one is set to come out exclusive to the Wii and is probably the "Wii Spielberg" title hinted to come out before April of 2008.
Spielberg also mentioned a video game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 code-named LMNO. In the game, we'll be playing the part of an ex-secret agent on the run - which really isn't so original. The story becomes interesting when you add a girl with special abilities into the mix. The interactions you ...

How strange can Japanese adverts get? After watching these two Minna no Golf 5 (or Hot Shots Golf 5 on North American shores), there's definitely no limit to the weirdness that is the Japanese TV spots.
These videos feature men bathing in a communal bath house - not especially surreal since its part of their culture - but the fact that they're dipping in pools of golf balls is a different story entirely. Add the sumo-sized PlayStation 3 to the mix and you get extreme levels of craziness. Would you jump into a bathtub with a giant PS3?
Anyway, Hot Shots Golf 5 from Clap Hanz is a highly-popular golf game that managed to net 300,000 pre-orders in Japan, and will be released in Japanese shores on July 26. While we're waiting for that, check out the TV spots and tell us what you think.
