Oh, don't act so surprised. Was there ever really any chance that Microsoft would let Sony get a free ride for long on price cuts and start swiping console sales? Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter doesn't think so, and he's come out with predictions of price cuts across the board for the Xbox 360, in response to Sony's impending $100 PS3 slash. Michael expects the Elite to drop from $479 to $399, the Premium to sink from $399 to $349, and the Core to fall from $299 to $249. He seems to think it's connected with the Xbox 360 shipment shortage of late -- which could just as well be caused by a potential heatsink revamp, but his price-cut logic probably isn't far off either. Unfortunately for those of you waiting for a Nintendo console to make less of a dent in your wallet, Wedbush Morgan doesn't expect the Wii or DS prices to move by the end of the year, as sales remain strong for those two.

Ready for another dose of off-road action? Well, THQ has just announced a new multi-platform racing video game from their MX vs ATV franchise, to be called MX vs ATV Untamed.

THQ will be sharing the love with all the consoles as the video game will get versions for the consoles (PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Nintendo Wii, and PS2) and the handhelds (PlayStation Portable and Nintendo DS). MX vs ATV Untamed will feature several improvements from its previous incarnations, including broader open world environments, an X-cross career mode, and a new mode called EnduroCross. The X-cross career mode will be featuring eight vehicles (with the debut of the new ORV Sport) while EnduroCross will have players going against all sorts of obstacles like rocks, logs, and pits of mud.

THQ seems to be enthused about the multi-platform release. Jack Sorenson, executive vice president of worldwide studios had this to say:

We've taken the core MX vs ATV racing experience and ta...

Following the confirmation of the PlayStation 3 price cut for North America, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has given GamesIndustry.biz a heads up regarding the console pricing for their side of the Atlantic.

According to the report, the announcement will be made during the E3 Media and Business Summit (to be held on July 11 to 13). Reportedly, the announcement will cover the price cut announcement made by SCEA  - from US 599 to US 499 - and the debut of the new 80GB PS3. The new model will come bundled with a copy of MotorStorm and will sell for US 599.

This is certainly something to look forward to for the fellows in Europe, especially for those who have been saving up for Sony's console. Currently, the PS3 sells at GBP 425 (EUR 599, or around US 850).

While the slimline PSTwo is already tiny, Sony has reduced internal components even further. Shipping now, this updated hardware drops from 900 to 600 grams, while the AC adapter drops from 350 to 250 grams. But despite a massive weight reduction, the PSTwo's footprint has remained the same. So will this update mean anything to the public?
Sony will be making more money per console, the industry expects, as components are simplified in newer systems. But it also opens the door for a price reduction. So hopefully we'll see a drop from the $129.99 price in the not-so-distant future. Or not. We need something to do with our PS3 anyway, and playing PS2 titles is half its job already.

Previously, we reported that a special episode on Gamer.tv will feature the upcoming video game for the PlayStation 3, Heavenly Sword. If you missed the special, no worries. lvl54spacemonkey from YouTube uploaded the entire episode and we'd just like to say that we're very the grateful.

Okay, watching the videos really gave us that heady feeling - and honestly, it was very hard to stop ourselves from drooling. In the said episode, we see the heroine Nariko and the other characters in Ninja Theory's Heavenly Sword. We find out that the game starts at the end of the story where Nariko chooses to wield the Heavenly Sword to go against King Bohan's (Bothan, Botan, whatever) entire army. Unfortunately, the Heavenly Sword saps her life force in the process. Add the entire army into the mix and so the heroine dies and ends up in Purgatory.

The Gamer.tv episode also included how the different attacks and stances work, the actors that take part in the making of the game, plus ...

Our tipster Geo came to us with an interesting piece of information regarding our favorite ball rolling prince and a jilted console.

There has been a number of reports about the cult hit from Namco Bandai the past couple of weeks. One report showed that the Prince will be skipping the PlayStation 3 and will be rolling away on the Wii instead. Another report was about the official site of Beautiful Katamari Damacy showing only Xbox 360 as the only platform listed. Well, according to a recent article in Famitsu magazine, the earlier report is confirmed. According to Famitsu, the upcoming video games' 360 and Wii versions are already in the works.

So does this mean that the Prince is really leaving the PS3 in favor of the two other consoles? There hasn't been any official announcement from Namco Bandai, but we'll be sure to be here when that happens. Stay tuned for more Beautiful Katamari Damacy news.

Thanks again to Geo for the tip!

It's official: PS3 units are going to sell at US 499 in North America. After countless of rumors all over the net, mysterious ads sent in advanced, and claims that cheaper units went off the shelves, Sony finally gave word that they'll be cutting a hundred bucks off the 60GB model. "This news does not affect any other PS3 territory," said Dave Karakker, Sony Computer Entertainment America.

In addition, the 80GB PS3 models previously released in Korea are now flying over to the US. At US 599, the package will come with a copy of MotorStorm.

Price cut on the 60GB version will be effective come July 10, while the units with bigger hard drives will be shipping in August. An anonymous Circuit City manager claims that the price cut will take place on July 12, so some retail outlets might be a few days behind.

No one's surprised. But Sony just dropped an official press release stating that the PS3 is getting an 80GB model in the US for $599 (with Motorstorm), while the original 60GB premium goes for $499 ($100 less). You know what's dumb? No one needs an 80GB drive on the PS3 because there aren't really any solid things you'd want to download. Yet. I'm not one to shit talk Sony for dropping the price on the PS3, though. More power to em. Full presser after the jump.
