While a US$100 price cut for the sleek PlayStation 3 may have practically set the videogame industry (and community) on fire, it seems that some are not convinced that the abrupt move on Sony's part may still not be enough to turn things around. One of those aforementioned parties being Konami, with the opinion coming from an executive of the game publishing company famous for ground-breaking hits such as Metal Gear Solid.

If you haven't heard, Sony recently slashed a hundred greenbacks off the PlayStation 3's price tag to get the market moving, so to speak. Kazumi Kitaue, the unimpressed executive from Konami, is doubtful that the price cut could change things this far into the console war. He mentioned that with US$500, one can already buy a personal computer.

And it's not just doubt. Kazumi Kitaue brings more disconcerting news - specifically, Konami having to look to other consoles to release Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots on to recoup...

It looks like gamers stuck in the past may want to think twice before throwing down the $600 for a shiny new 80GB PS3, as it's now been revealed that the system has dropped the PS2 "emotion engine" chip in favor of the software-based solution currently employed in the 80GB Korean PS3 and existing Euro PS3s. As you can sort of make out in the image from the 80GB box above, that means "limited backward compatibility" with PS1 and PS2 games, not to mention a likely endless series of software updates to slowly expand that compatibility. No word if the 60GB PS3 will also be going the software-only route, although that $100 price drop could possibly be a sign of things to come. On a side note, our pals at Joystiq also got the official word from Sony on that mysterious red light emanating from the SIXAXIS on the 80GB PS3 box. According to Sony's Dave Karraker, "it is just a lighting trick. Nothing different or new about it."

Watch a half-naked man in a loincloth and matching boots leave a path strewn with bits and pieces of his enemies (as well as a liberal amount of the red stuff) in this latest high-definition trailer of Nihilistic Software's Conan for the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3. We get you a sneak peek at just what sort of eye-candy you'll be able to watch here and on the legendary E3 itself.

While the first trailer teased us with a view of the game's environments and the combat system in action, we see more - literally MORE - of it in this latest trailer. As usual, the graphics are looking absolutely gorgeous, and the blood effects certainly add to the gory combat (involving you going through your opponents like a warm knife through butter). We also get a closer look at the bosses, one of which is the legendary Kraken, which we only saw as a mass of tentacles in the first trailer.

What's also neat about this trailer is that we see Conan wielding different weapons - the eagle-e...

THQ recently revealed that it will be bringing two new entries in the Destroy All Humans! franchise to video game consoles next year.

The first title is Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed. The game is currently being developed for the Nintendo Wii by Locomotive Games and should be released early next year.

Jack Sorenson, THQ's executive vice president of worldwide studios, revealed that Big Willy Unleashed will let gamers cause massive destruction on foot, in Crypto's UFO or at the controls of the Big Willy mech in a funked out version of the 1970s. Destroy All Humans! Big Willy Unleashed is also slated to be ported to the Sony PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable platforms.

Another Destroy All Humans! title is also in development for the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft Xbox 360 video game consoles. According to Sorenson, this open-world game - titled Path of the Furon - will follow Crypto on his "journey of enlightenment and destruction." Path of the...

Kazumi Kitaue, head of Konami’s North American and European operations spoke to Reuters about the $100 price cut to the 60GB PS3 and believes it will have little impact: I wonder if Sony can win back user support by the price cut of just $100. I don’t expect a substantial impact … With $500, you can [...]

Rumours swirling around nowadays state that GHIII could be a time 360 exclusive. I, for one, certainly hope not! I’m really looking forward to playing a native PS3 Guitar Hero game, and I don’t want to be delayed because of politics. At any rate, Activision has released pictures of the new GHIII guitars, and they all [...]

As Sporty pointed out in the Shoutbox, Sony have released the first in-game image of Killzone for the PS3: It’s apparently a screenshot of the one level demo that will be showcased at E3 during the press conference that is scheduled for tomorrow. Kellee Santiago of thatgamecompany sat down with Gamasutra to talk about how well PS3 gamers received their microbial downloadable game flOw (created by thatgamecompany's co-founder Jenova Chen), as well as hint at a new "emotional" game in the works.

While flOw turned out to be a success in terms of critical reception - even considered as the number 1 downloadable game in the PlayStation Network - Santiago said that thatgamecompany didn't feel the huge impact of the game's success, as they are in a 3-game deal with Sony anyway, and had 2 more games lined up for Sony.

She goes on to say that  Sudoku, as well as David Jaffe's Calling All Cars, will probably do better than fl0w. However, she isn't sure how well the 2 games translated for international markets because unlike flOw, the mentioned games weren't released in other territories on its launch.

According to Santiago, thatgamecompany is also currently working on a game which focuses on a new kind of ...

It's official: You should keep your PS2 around for Guitar Hero III since it picks up the most badass guitar of the bunch, a black Kramer. The PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 all get boring white Gibson Les Pauls. But at least now you can swap the faceplate out for something that shreds a bit harder, like My Little Pony (of Doom).
