Oh boy, another patent lawsuit filed in that litigious folly called the Texas court system. This time, the suit pits Parallel Processing Corporation of Newport Beach, California against that legal whipping boy, Sony. PPC alleges that Sony's Cell processor -- the horsepower inside the PS3 -- violates a patent for "synchronized parallel processing with shared memory." Filed on July 26th, the five-page complaint by PPC states that Sony's actions are causing "irreparable harm and monetary damage" to the company and are therefore seeking the usual: compensation for damages (with interest) as well as the impounding and destruction of all Sony products infringing on the patent. Good times.

Sony, oh Sony, when will you launch a gaming console that won't get slapped with yet another lawsuit? Parallel Processing Corporation (PPC), a California-based company, sued Sony and accused the creators of the PlayStation for infringing on its patent of Synchronized Parallel Processing with Shared Memory (Patent no. 5,056,000), and using the said patent on its Cell processors.
The five-page complaint that PPC filed against Sony claims that Sony's powerful Cell processors used the company's patented technology, enabling Sony's Cell chips to breakdown processes into smaller ones, all running at the same time and in different parallel processors for faster computing.
The patent was signed and approved on October 8, 1991, and was awarded to International Parallel Machines. Parallel Processing Corporation claims to be the exclusive licensee of the patent, and is seeking damages and attorney's fees. But the scarier part? Impounding and destruction of all Sony products tha...

Earlier this week, we got treated to the Heavenly Sword demo for the Sony PlayStation 3. It was a brief one, but boy did it ever make an impact.
To follow up on the explosive demo, the devs also released this new cutscene video featuring the lovely sword-toting heroine with her red hair and exotic looks. It's set in some prison that she finds herself in. Take a look and listen in for more clues on the storyline.
The graphics are looking very nice in the cut scene and the voice acting isn't too shabby either. The dialogue sets the tone for the foreseeable attitude of protagonist Nariko and it looks like she's going to have that cold steel attitude to match her fiery good looks. Interesting....

Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence heralded the marquee Metal Gear franchise's entry into the online gaming scene, followed up by the online gaming mode featured in Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. Some referred to the bundled online modes as Metal Gear Online (MGO), but little did we all know that the real MGO was yet to arrive.
In the celebration for the Metal Gear franchise's 20th anniversary, Konami announced that it would be releasing Metal Gear Online, a stand-alone title which is based on the gameplay and graphics of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the Sony PlayStation 3. What makes it different and why is it independent from MGS4? Let's have the devs explain that here:
Essentially, the core idea behind MGO is simple: You take out the opposing team much like other online combat titles. What makes it different is the style in which you go about things to meet that end. Players can choose various skills such as hacking, CQC, armed fight...

SKATE (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3) by Electronic Arts is set to be released on September 11, 2007 in the US and Canada to give next-gen consoles a dash of skating flash and realism. We've seen quite a few trailers of this prospect and we must say that it's looking better and better each time. What you're about to see is the Skater Progression trailer. Have a look:
As you can see in this video, the developer explains how your skater progresses from creation, exploration to a bonafide extreme sport star shooting trick videos for a living. There's a plethora of things to do in this game, which can be described as a hybrid between a sandbox title and sporting sim.
As you've probably noticed by now, SKATE is as much about style as it is on gameplay. The main feature being touted by developers is the ability to view 45 seconds of replays and customize camera angles to get the best possible look. Users can then upload the clip to EA's servers and have everyone see what stu...

Games Radar was able to catch up with Hal Milton of SOE to talk about the much-talked about MMOG for the PS3 and PC, The Agency. In the interview, Hal Milton discusses just how massive the title is, the challenge in the development process, and more.
So, we're pretty sure you're just as curious as we are as to the expanse of The Agency. After all, SOE made such a big fuss keeping it under wraps, and an even bigger hullabaloo in unveiling it. Well, according to Milton, "the game world will support many, many people in a variety of public and private social and encounter areas." But of course, quantity is not necessarily the only thing prioritized here, but quality as well. That's why they've incorporated that speed necessary in making an action shooter work real.
As to why they chose the cartoon-ish style as opposed to going for the realistic visuals route that seems to be all the rave with the technologies we currently have, Milton explains that what they really wan...

With Electronic Art's Need for Speed ProStreet (PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, Wii, DS, PS2) taking a more hardcore path in the racing genre, the developers are reiterating that this game will be much, much faster than its predecessors. Now, in case you've already gotten wind of the previous "Smoke Trailer" video we've got here, we'll be introducing another video showcasing what the game is aimed to be all about: speed.
This video will be less on the subtle physics effects demonstrated in past posts and will focus instead on a straight-out run, at speeds (as the devs put it) that will indeed leave you breathless, your visions blurred, and your stomachs knotted. Enjoy the video, and fasten your seat-belts - this could get bumpy.

PS3 owners can now say, "So what if Microsoft is having exclusive downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360 and PS3)?" In case you haven't heard yet, Sony Computer Entertainment America have just scored a deal with Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games that will bring a new exclusive franchise to the PlayStation 3.
The news was revealed by SCEA Director of 3rd Party Relations Michael Shorrock over at the official PlayStation Blog. No details were revealed whatsoever by Shorrock aside from the announcement. However, Shorrock said that the new title is not going to be L.A. Noire and that it's going to be a whole new IP. He explained further,
[We're] more excited about what's to come from the current and future relationship between our companies. Rockstar really wanted to make a game that you can truly only do on PS3, harnessing the power of CELL and Blu-ray disc and this deal lets them do just that.. This is really a win-win situation for both companies.

While HD-DVD may be the format of choice for most members of the U.S. porn industry, recent events have shown that support for the Blu-ray format is starting to grow. In Japan, meanwhile, adult film makers have already made a decisive choice to go with Blu-ray.
According to PC World, movie makers revealed during the Adult Treasure Expo 2007 in Chiba, Japan, that Sony has started offering more technical support to Japan's adult film industry. Right now, there are ten Japanese adult movies on Blu-ray compared to only one on HD-DVD.
Major reasons for the decision seems to be both price and the Blu-ray-equipped Sony PlayStation 3. HD-DVD movies cost more than Blu-ray movies in Japan, partly due to HD-DVD movies being bundled with DVD versions as well. Sony's strong presence in the Japanese gaming industry also seems to have played a major role.
Despite this, Sony has stated that its policy of not allowing Sony DADC Global, the company's disc replicating subsidiar...
