MCV got a chance to interview the SCEE boss David Reeves. He said the “E3 was a phoney war”. The real war will begin at Leipzig next month, August 23 - 26. A few things that stood out for me in the interview are:
“Massively enhancing the appeal of both the PlayStation 3 and PSP.”
“We will [...]

With exceptional visuals, brutal one-hit kill moves, and the rich world of Greek mythology to draw from, Codemasters' Rise of the Argonauts for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC is looking to be one of the best-looking (and best-playing) games coming out this year.
Today's update about this ambitious IP is an interview during E3 about the game's Dynamic Combat System which pretty much lets you customize King Jason as you see fit. In this video, we learn about how the game streamlines the RPG experience into something easier, faster and more gratifying.
For instance, levelling up Jason's different areas of expertise is as easy as dedicating your heroic exploits (rescuing people, killing monsters, that sort of malarkey) to the relevant god. We also get to find out that combat in Rise of the Argonauts will be quite the visceral experience. Rather than having your opponents take a set number of hits before finally going down, it's more of a single-hit kill affair.

We're sure a whole lot of you have been waiting for news regarding Ninja Theory's upcoming PlayStation 3 video game, Heavenly Sword. As luck would have it, we've got a little tidbit of interest for you today.
During the E3 Media and Business Summit, Advanced Media Network was able to score an interview with Tameem Antoniades, co-founder and chief design ninja of Ninja Theory. At the end of the said interview, something very interesting slipped and to be honest, we're sure it will make a lot of people happy (aside from the news of downloadable content and Home support).
The interviewer asked whether Ninja Theory had any plans to make a sequel (or sequels) for Heavenly Sword. To this, Antoniades replied, "When we set out to do Heavenly Sword, which was a long time ago, it was four years ago when we first came up with the concept, we wanted it to be a three game story. So we've had the story for the sequel for a while now."

While the US received a PS3 price cut, Europe and Australia received PlayStation 3 starter packs. European gamers might have already gone out and purchased the pack. Aussies, on the other hand, will not have to wait much longer to get their hands on the said PS3 bundle.
As reported by PalGN, Aussies will be getting their hands on the said starter pack which includes an extra SIXAXIS, and two free games come August 2. The pack comes with two top selling PS3 titles, MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man and will retail at AU 999.95 (approximately US 879).
Hmm... Is it a better value than getting a price cut? Depends on how much you like the bundled games, we suppose. In any case, let your wallets be the judge on August 2.

Okay, so Europe isn't getting the 80GB PlayStation 3, but how about something beefier? A recent interview between Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) boss David Reeves and Norway's Dagbladet website delves further into the company's decision not to bring the 80GB PS3 into Europe's territory.
As Mr. Reeves stated, "The difference between 60 and 80GB is very small, we just feel that going up 20GB is not worth it." But while Europe isn't getting those extra 20 gigs of memory on their units Reeves, further hinted at another possibility.
"If you go to double it, it's worth it. So maybe you'll see something a little bit later," he said.
A 120GB PlayStation 3 in the works, outside disagreeably expensive workarounds? We're not sure if this is what the SCEE boss has in mind, although that's certainly plenty of space for movie, games, and other possible items that might be popping up. That's all the info we've got for the moment, although you're welcome to stick...

SEGA producer Toshihiro Nagoshi who brought us the Super Monkey Ball series, Spikeout, Daytona USA and Yakuza, made some announcements for the PS3 at the PlayStation Premiere in Tokyo. Later, he hinted that he is personally involved with two new games for the PS3.
Escorted by (or escorting) two geishas, Nagoshi said that one of the games was his "biggest production since I started working on consumer games." The geishas are supposedly a hint at the theme of this new game.
He also "expects it to exceed Yakuza in its ability to move players." It is planned to be released Spring 2007. About the other game though, he just says that they will be able to announce details about it in the "not-so-distant future."
Also announced was Senjou no Valkyrie ("Battle Field Valkyrie"), a combination of the action, strategy and RPG genres. It also features a new graphical style that makes the visuals look like a watercolor painting. The technique has been dubbed as "Canvas....

Getting a little tired of the media volleys that have left you asking when Midway Games' Stranglehold (Xbox 360, PS3) will arrive? Senior game designer Patrick Curry has just announced that they've finished the Xbox 360 demo for the game, which has now been sent over to Microsoft for proper verification and upload to Xbox Live. And as Mr. Curry explains, here's what 360 owners can look forward to when it arrives:
Just what does the demo contain? Tons. The demo starts off the same as the single-player game, introducing you to the controls and combat of Stranglehold. The Hong Kong Marketplace has tons of interactions, lots of combat, plenty of gags, a couple standoffs, doves, and even some extra hidden content. You ll be hard pressed to find a demo with this much gameplay crammed into it.
Curry further added that the demo's PlayStation Network release is still under works, but should be available soon. We'll let you know if we spot the Stranglehold demo on either online ser...

Capcom's appearance at Comic-con 2007 in San Diego should prove to be a much bigger event than what this giant company did at E3. In a booth that features open gaming stations, attendees will be able to get their hands on Zack & Wiki, Harvey Birdman, Mega Man Star Force and Mega Man ZX Advent, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix, Rocketmen and Moto GP. An Ace Attorney game will also be playable, but we're not certain which iteration of Phoenix Wright it'll be.
The most noteworthy of all, of course, are playable demos of Devil May Cry 4 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) and Resident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles. That's right, E3 this year never had that much of a privilege to serve the hottest games coming under Capcom's belt.
As if gamers attending Comic-con weren't lucky enough, the Capcom store will also feature plenty of games at discount prices and merchandise up for grabs. Here are some that you can expect to find:
a new Street Fighter shirt produced exclusively f...

Here's the latest on sales of hardware and games for the weeks ending on July 7 and 14. July 14, it has to be noted, is just a day after E3.
Recent data gives light to Sony's claim of a doubling in their sales since their US 100 price drop. For the sales week ending on July 14 at least, sales for the PlayStation 3 rose 131 , more than double, outrunning the sales of the 360. The Wii rose by 10 but the Xbox hardly moved, selling only 1 more than the previous week.
The Nintendo DS is enjoying a ginormous success; although sales slipped by 5 , you can hardly scoff at more than 97k units sold in a week. The PSP sold only 50k on the same week.
It also looks like the top 5 games in Amazon last July 8 seems to be just as popular to non-online shoppers. The most popular games for each console is Wii Play for the Wii, The Darkness for the Xbox 360, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma for the PS3. Still going strong for the Wii are Mario Party 8 and Resident Evil 4. S...
