The Inquirer reports that during an interview with San Jose Mercury News, Microsoft's Peter Moore admitted that Microsoft was somewhat left out by Sony's PS3 Folding@Home initiative. However, he does take a jab at Sony and says: "I m not quite sure yet whether we re seeing real tangible results from the PlayStation 3 Folding@Home initiative."
What's interesting about the Inquirer report is that they speculate that the Xbox 360 could possibly beat the PS3 when it comes to folding. Here's their words:
The Geforce 7900 inside the PS3 is no match for Xenos in the Xbox. Even the Sony Cell would probably end beaten by 48 vec4 scalar units hidden inside Xbox's 360 graphics chip. Folding@Home is Stream Computing at its finest, and six/seven/eight SPE units can flourish in the CPU. But when compared to the GPU, the Xbox 360 GPU would probably run in circles around Cell CPU.
And then Microsoft's marketing machine might get interested in touting Folding@Hom...

Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) has announced that its Taipei-based SOGA studio together with Shanghai Northstar is developing a game based on the movie "Kung Fu Hustle".
Players should be able to encounter familiar characters from the movie such as the Landlady, the Sidekick, Sin, among others. The video game should feature a branching story mode, and players should be able to hone their Kung-Fu skills by challenging a host of wacky enemies across China.
The game should also have a versus mode that should allow for eight players to fight against each other in multiplayer mayhem. There are also plans to allow players to purchase extra lives and virtual items in exchange for cash.
It was said that the game will be designed specifically for the Chinese market. We are hopeful though that we'll be able to get a subtitled version. Or even better, we hope that we'll get a badly dubbed version, complete with mismatched voice-timing.
While we're e...

A couple of days ago, we got a preview of Grand Theft Auto IV (PS3, 360) from The Official PlayStation Magazine (OPM). Today, we get the details from its Microsoft counterpart in publication, The Official Xbox Magazine (OXM). The gta4.net website was able to scrape out the new info from the publication and drafted the list of details that you guys might be dying to know.
We've paraphrased the whole list below:
GTA IV is now 66 complete.Crosshairs pop up when Niko pulls out a gun. This could imply manual aiming in the game. When using your mobile phone, the camera will show a zoom-in panel of the mobile phone's interface at the bottom-right corner of your screen - allows you to view your address book for "jobs" and view other contacts.Exterior fire escape staircases are accessible; some meetings will happen high up in skyscrapers too - which could lead to you throwing people off the building from that height. Rawr.Hand to hand combat will feel "much more natural" and i...

Following through the night event held by Electronic Arts after their announcement of a new Simpsons game (still a working title), we were treated earlier to a little verbal illustration of what we could expect from the game. While this title has been announced for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP, PS2 and DS, it seems IGN pegs this game to be also coming to Simpsons fans on the PC.
Now we've got a very short visual snippet of what's coming for the game, straight from the writing staff, including The Simpsons' creator Matt Groening. In the game development team's bet to make this new title "not just another Simpsons game, but 'The Simpsons game,'" they have put a lot of work into making sure the game will entice new and old Simpsons fans alike.
With just a few short seconds of gameplay coverage in the video, at least we can put some pictures to words that Kotaku's Brian Crecente has penned. Spoofs of games (see if you can spot and name a few shown in the video im...

According to an official press release handed over by the friendly neighborhood mailman, PathEngine, makers of the self-titled pathfinding and movement SDK, announced Release 5.10 of their SDK. Sporting a ramped up graph search core and improvements in performance for dealing with dynamic obstacles, the SDK was licensed to at least three more parties.
In addition to 3d-io and Dongguk University of Korea, the SDK has been "proudly" announced to be licensed to Creative Assembly, the makers of the phenomenal Total War strategy series. In fact, it has been explicitly stated that the SDK will be incorporated in the UK and Brisbane-based developer's as yet unnamed project for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
Creative Assembly has currently just polished up their Total War Kingdoms expansion for the latest installment to the Total War series, Medieval II: Total Wars. Does that mean there's a totally new Total War title heading for the next-gen console? We'll k...

We're not too sure just how far along Atari is in developing Alone in the Dark: Near Death Investigation, but perhaps this new press wire will shed light on the matter. The publisher has just announced that in order to enhance the authenticity of the game's New York setting, they have picked author Lorenzo Carcaterra to write the game script - that's him on the right.
Born and raised in New York's Hell's Kitchen neighborhood, Mr. Carcaterra has had extensive experience in writing graphic depictions of the harsh realities of New York's darker side.
Most readers and moviegoers will probably best remember his writing style from the Sleepers (1995) novel, which was later adapted into a 1996 movie of the same name, directed by Barry Levinson. Mr. Carcaterra's recent literary works include Street Boys (2002), Paradise City (2004), Chasers (2005).
Outside of his novels, Lorenzo was also a reporter for the NY Daily News in 1976, and eventually became a TV cons...

North America's PlayStation Network (PSN) Store updated today (depending on which state you live in) with some new material by way of two games and three gameplay videos. Back on the shop list is Calling All Cars, which missed out on its original May 3 parole release due to two major bug fixes.
In case this is your first time reading this, Calling All Cars puts players behind the wheels of one of 10 in-game vehicles, as they try to wrangle escaped cons on the game's four cartoony worlds. The game was designed by David Jaffe, and is downloadable for US ($9.99).
New to the list is Atari Games' (aka Atari) Rampart arcade game from 1990. This strategy/puzzle title puts players behind the command of castles they must defend by shooting at several incoming ships. Rampart is expected to go for US 4.99.
As for the video freebies, PS3 owners will be treated to a new Warhawk video, which introduces viewers to the game's air combat, as well as its wide range of we...

Just fresh from the "late" presses is SEGA's recent announcement of its games lined up for a 2007-2008 cycle. According to the report by game dev haven Gamasutra, SEGA has set Condemned 2: Bloodshot, Ghost Squad, Happy Tree Friends: False Alarm, Universe At War: Earth Assault and...what's this? A "new PC RPG deal with Gas Powered Games"?
The announcement of the title line-up for the next cycle was made at SEGA's Gamer's Day in San Francisco, and the details of the titles were spilled to certain extent although not as comprehensive as you might hope. The big mystery title being developed with Gas Powered Games comes with even more minute details, keeping the specifics of the game as an "an original and as yet unspecified role-playing game for the PC" coming for 2008.
Coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 is Condemned 2: Bloodshot from original franchise creators Monolith Productions. The game was mentioned to be coming with "an all-new fighting mechanic a...

PSP homebrew icon Fanjita - otherwise known as David Court in the "real world" - was interviewed a few days ago, this time by The Skinny. The UK-based magazine wanted to know, basically, the inner workings of the homebrew scene. And so they tracked down Fanjita to ask, in The Skinny's own words, "the whys and wherefores of hacking the little big screen."
After giving a bit of historical background, Fanjita explains that during the beginning, not a lot of progress had been made. Despite this, the biggest thing that came out of it was that they were able to form a tight little group of decrypters and hackers (he's probably referring to what we all know now as Noobz).
When asked of how Sony's been treating the homebrew scene, Fanjita answers that he's really not too sure why the PSP has been getting firmware upgrades galore, whereas the PS3 has been pretty much opened up to the homebrew scene, care of Linux:
It's symptomatic of Sony's whole attitude to the...
