If you’re not getting tired of videos showing the PS3 itself, then maybe you’d like to wander over to Engadget, because Sony gave them a sneak peek at the shiny console, and they took video! Unfortunately, the video ended just as it started getting really interesting.
Hmph. I guess PS3Blog.net has to get 1000X more popular [...]

Electronic Arts just announced the official name for their next gen version of NBA Street; and it's a little closer to home than you may think. NBA Street Homecourt will be coming to the PS3 and Xbox 360 as the 4th chapter of the highly popular franchise expands on the fast-paced and larger-than-life 3-on-3 basketball gameplay that has made it such a hit with gamers.
"NBA Street Homecourt gives fans the opportunity to play where legends were made, and will be made," said Dan Ayoub, lead producer on the product. "Every legendary player got his start somewhere and most of those roots are set in homecourts across the United States. The vision for the game's concept, visuals and gameplay all give a nod to those hometown courts, and will provide fans with an incredibly addictive and rewarding experience."
If NBA Street has never been your kind of game, then you should take note of this next generation outing as it features a brand new game engine specifically...

We got a brief shred of playtime back at E3 this year, but Sony was kind enough to invite us down to SCEA HQ in beautiful Foster City for a little one on one with some PlayStation3s and execs. We shot some video (yes, us) and have a some notes on the hardware after the break, so check it out!
P.S. -Our flash video isn't the highest quality / res. If you want the best looking video of the PS3, check out the VGA h.264 file below.
Download video
MOV (h.264) - VGA, QVGA
AVI (DivX) - VGA, QVGA
Music: Christopher Willits - Colors Shifting (Ghostly International)
If nothing else, it's certainly something to behold.
Unfortunately we didn't get a chance to video the slot loading drive in the PS3, but there isn't much to write about it. Anyone who's ever had a slot loading laptop knows the deal. It was a bit loud, but did the trick.
The port config, as we all well know by now....

Lik-Sang's preorders were sued away by Sony. Play-Asia cancelled shipments to certain areas. What with all these voided reservations, where could a preorder-less Sony fan get their peace of mind in getting a console at launch? Hold on... We sense a disturbance in the force. And we're hearing whispers in our heads that say "Black market! Black market! There's always the black market!"
Sony seems to accept the fact that some PS3 units would end up in the black market, but they've already issued a warning against these non-legitimate goods. Here's SCEA's statement to the consumers:
Such offers are not done with any cooperation from SCEA or its parent company. SCEA strongly recommends against consumers pursuing such offers, as their legitimacy cannot be confirmed. We recommend consumers purchase PlayStation products only from authorised SCEA retailers and resellers.
This would include websites and other stores that would sell PS3 units at a discount or offer them by b...

In another interview with Sony’s “semi-official” blog three-speech Phil Harrison has again discussed Sony’s E-Distribution Initiative… to the rest of us he means, the PS3 virtual console/arcade.

Since announcing the concept back in March it is clear that SCE Worldwide Studios has had real success in attracting upcoming developers. The aim is clearly to bring [...]

If you recall, yesterday Microsoft released the latest update for the 360, this was the long awaited update that added 1080p capabilities to the console.
After a day of testing there are some particular strange things going on. People on the AVS forum are reporting that 1080p is not working with component or VGA cables on the Sony XBR2/XBR3 line of HDTVs, which are touted as some of the better 1080p HDTVs out. Also, before I get flamed, the XBR series can support 1080p over said cable, according to the manual.
We presume Microsoft just dropped the ball and fucked something up, but it is nice to think it was done purposely to spite Sony and the PS3. Read the full complaint after the jump.
Something fishy is going on with the 360's dashboard update from yesterday. Sony's XBR2/XBR3 line of televisions are pretty universally regarded as top of the line when it comes to 1080p displays, but despite that, the 360 will not display 1080p resolution, either with comp...

Hmmm. Should I get one of these? Or should I make do until I have a new pre/processor or receiver that can switch HDMI? Once I get my PS3, I’ll have two HDMI devices, and only one DVI/HDCP input on my TV. So I’ll have to use a component connection for my PS3 or my [...]

Ask anybody about the LOTR Trilogy, and aside from the usual fangirl wailings (and fanboy flamings) about Legolas, you'll eventually run into the dudes who say it rocked because of the set's scenic Wellington location. Gotta give those guys credits: Good locations can make or break a game, and with that in mind, we're letting you guys know that the this list of visually jaw-dropping PS3 games we're listing will be running on SpeedTree - already famous for its rendering of the greens for Epic's Unreal Engine 3.
Resistance: Fall of Man Call of Duty 3 Full Auto 2: Battlelines The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Fatal Inertia Way of the Samurai 3
SpeedTree's a software development kit by Interactive Data Visualization (IDV), and is a software engine specifically designed to render trees, whether they be the small, mud-covered shrubberies you've hurdled over in in CoD3, or the huge, hulking ancient oaks you've ridden by in Oblivion. SpeedTree allows game developers the conven...

No, hell didn't just freeze over, and neither did the Big 3 decide to give up on their plans for world domination and come together for a new console. It's just me imagining things, and wondering what it would be like if Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft decided to make a console together. Now obviously, I won't go imagining about things which they would do. Rather, it's a list of good things which can be borrowed from each of the three next-gen consoles to make a "super-uber-kickass next-gen console."
Firstly, let's talk about the Xbox 360, since it's the only one out yet. Created by Microsoft to be a worthy successor to it's moderately-successful Xbox, the Xbox 360 does hold its own against the offerings from Nintendo and Sony. Perhaps, it's the cool "outspoken" looks, which tend to grow on you, or maybe, it's the "be-good" attitude from Microsoft this generation. Whatever it is, the Xbox 360 does have a few things which can be a worthy addition to any console in the market.

For you PS3 fans out there out there getting ready to once again to brave the elements, traffic jams, and fellows fans alike to get a chance at your very own unit, we've picked up some hot news.
While browsing the net, we came across some seriously juicy info on the addresses of the select Best Buy stores that will be holding a midnight launch for the PS3 come November 17. There's 18 stores in total.
Consider this an early warning, so if you don't live anywhere near these areas, now's a good time to start prepping some gas money for your PS3 hunt/roadtrip.
On a side note, it doesn't look like Best Buy's planning to hold a midnight launch for the Wii, and will instead just open up their stores an hour early (8 a.m.), on November 19.
Hmm, either they're not expecting that big a crowd (read: mob) for the Wii, or the PS3's initial launch numbers will be drawing in even more rabid reactions - maybe both? In any case, here's the list, and given just how bad it...
