For launch, I’m definitely excited about Resistance. And there are one or two other PS3 titles that I’m keeping my eye on. But overall, the PS3 launch lineup is still a little light (PS2 is having a great season though!).
But looking to next quarter: wow! There is a lot of really good content right around [...]

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, and they also say that when marketing your product, you should focus on its strengths and advantages and why people should shell out their money for the said product. Well, in the case of Nintendo and Sony, two videos which have been floating around on YouTube would probably illustrate those marketing strategies best.
We have two companies with different mottos, different audiences, and different personalities, and now that one thinks about it, perhaps it may also be possible that the only similarity that they will ever bear would be the fact that they are both members of the video games industry. These two ads just simply underline just how different these two are, just as white is separated from black.
looks at the two consoles Literally.
Now, while watching these two ads, one thing jumped at us the most, and that would be the opening lines for each video. The ad for the Wii begins wit...

So, have you figured out your Sony Online identity yet? Well, for our European friends, you might want to start drafting that list of preferred handles that you'd want your buddies to know you as. There's this rumor that once the PS3's online service goes up this Friday (in time for the North American release of the PS3), Euro gamers will also be able to at least reserve their preferred gamertags.
According to the poster over at the DCEmu forums, "Sony will enable anyone, regardless of location, to sign up at PlayStation 3's official site and register a username for when we eventually play online."
Of course this is yet to be confirmed, and we'll all have to wait for Friday to see if this is true, but then again, I for one, would hate to get stuck with some combination of my name, initials and birthdate AGAIN.
Thanks to GeKKo for the tip!

Sony's piece of next-gen hardware isn't even formally out in the US yet, but already we have companies making apps for the PlayStation 3. One such company was Red Kawa, which made video conversion software to make your movies compatible with the PlayStation 3. Now, Fire International is stepping into the ring with its own new app: the Xploder PS3 Movie Player.
Dubbing itself the iTunes for the PS3, the Xploder PS3 Movie Player acts as a media manager for both your console and your PSP. It converts your videos for the best playback on both PS3 and PSP, as well as letting you choose what format it will convert your videos into. It also allows you to export your iTunes lists from handheld to console and vice-versa and converts your CDs to mp3s. It even manages your photo galleries.
Perhaps of more use to gamers is how it can inform the user of gamesaves. As their press release states,
Access, download and manage the latest gamesaves for PS3 and PSP from ...

Darkness! Darkness is spreading! No, not the PS3—though that's spreading too—we're talking about Charlie Murphy and his appearance at the PS3 NY Launch Party on November 16. If you're one of the first 400 to show up at 550 Madison Ave., NYC, and you'll see host Ludacris and hear music by D-Nice, not to mention be able to purchase your own PS3. Party starts at 9:00PM.
If you're in SF, you're in luck as The Executive Vice President, Senior Vice President, and an Onlympic Gold Medalist show u...wait, is that right? NY gets Ludacris and Charlie Murphy, and SF gets the COO of Marketing? At least there's a "highly anticipated musical performance", which means "we don't know who's going to be there yet because he hasn't confirmed, so we're scrambling. Please come anyway!" Party starts at 8:30PM and lasts 'til 10:00PM on the barricaded 4th Street, and you can buy your PS3 at midnight.
Bonus points: send a picture of yourself with the newly bought PS3 in your pants....

We were amusing ourselves fooling around with the Wii today when we realized that Nintendo's biggest competitor this season may not actually be the Xbox 360 or the PlayStation 3. It's Microsoft's freaking HD DVD drive. Think about it: besides the obviously similar size (seriously, what's up with that? couldn't Microsoft slim that thing down a little?), they're the two next-gen gaming devices coming out this season closest to one another's price range; chances are you already have a 360, so when you can't get a Wii because they're all sold out worldwide, it's a fair assumption that you'll be buying (or receiving) an HD DVD drive instead. We know some of you just winced a little, but just you wait and see -- we want no whining when the box you unwrap Chrismahanukwanzakah morning turns out to be a game peripheral instead of a game system. Ok, (kindly) discuss.

Aaaand now that we have your full attention (hahaha!), a very, shall we say, catty(?) Flickr user by the name of deskblog has posted a creative photo montage of console comparisons to make up for his uncreative username.
Errr...I mean, to show us a refreshing (yes, that's the word) comparison that diverges from all the intensely heated console comparisons we've been getting lately. So. Where's the pussy you ask? Dirty-minded readers would immediately think of a different kind of pussy, but this post has nothing to do with that. Sorry.
BUT! As promised, we do have a pussy getting in between consoles to give us a gauge to compare the consoles' sizes. As you'll see in the image above, the Wii is the smallest one by far, standing almost half of the 360 and PS3's height. But then again, as they say, good things come in small packages right? So with that, it's safe to say that the contest for "tallest console" will be left to the 360 and PS3.
See this is where thin...

You're either going to take this picture very seriously and scream around town as if it's the end of the world... or just ROFLMAOZ at it's absolute absurdity.
This picture on your right (uploaded by Boxthor at flickr) has been causing a ruckus over the web. As far back as we can trace it, the only "info" we can really squeeze out is that these are 100 PS3 units all being resold by this one guy from Japan named Eiji.
If this is true, then it's a really cruel world. In the words of fellow blogger Chris C., "a pretty despicable story if true." You don't just hoard PS3 units and sell them for a higher price without being called the next Lex Luthor. A lot of commenters online have even said that Sony "should be cracking down people like this instead of shutting down legit businesses like Lik-Sang." But that's just one side of it...
If this is false, then what could it be? For one thing, it could be a pic of the stock room of a game store. Or maybe these are just e...

If you don't have a PS3 pre-order yet (or if it got voided), then your salvation lies in lining up and trying to hope beyond all hope that you get one come launch. Seems like some people have learned from what happened in Japan.
If you've seen the long lines during their launch, then it must have occurred to you that camping out hours - no, days - prior to the console's release would be inevitable. And quite frankly, at this time, you might already be late because the camp out lines have already started!
For the Circuit City at Rockville, MD, the first person on the queue came there on 7 p.m., Monday as a promise to his son (aaaw, talk about family love). We don't know how many people are now in the line, but Fox 5's Will Thomas reports that there are already 150 of them there.
Zoinks, Scoob! Is there any hope for some of us to get a console without all this hassle? Of course, there's always going to be the option of waiting until next year or something, so t...

It's here guys! And it's a heck of a lot quicker than I had anticipated. Remember that mysterious Addon packages CD that we were talking about; the CD that supposedly contained the kboot image for the Fedora Core 5? Well, it's out, and you can download it right now!
The only thing remaining right now is the OtherOS installer which will be released by Sony in the coming few days. And looking at the speed at which the things are being released, I'd give it a week for the void to be filled. For all the lucky Japanese people, you're just a few inches away from having Linux on your PS3s. For our American readers, well, you'll be lucky to get one on launch day. But I guess I can leave that for some other day.
For now, I suggest that all the Linux enthusiasts get started by having the Fedora Core 5 DVD image and this Addon CD downloaded. All you'll need once the PS3 comes out is the OtherOS installer. I'm giving out the link to the Fedora Core 5 DVD download. Personally, I h...
